Anthropology is one of the most popular optional subjects in the UPSC Civil Services Mains. On this page we bring together everything you need for it – the official syllabus, the year-wise question papers and topic-wise previous year questions (PYQs).
Paper I covers the foundations of anthropology – human evolution and prehistory, culture, society, marriage, family and kinship, economic and political organisation, religion, anthropological theories, research methods, human genetics, growth and demography. Paper II covers Indian society and culture – the evolution of Indian civilisation, caste, villages and minorities, and the tribal situation in India, including tribal problems and development.
