About Us

Optional Province is a free resource for UPSC Civil Services aspirants preparing an optional subject for the Mains examination. We are the team behind Politics for India, which has guided PSIR optional aspirants for years, and Education Province, our home for Prelims and Mains GS previous year questions.

Why we built Optional Province

Previous year questions (PYQs) are the most reliable guide to what UPSC asks. Yet for most optional subjects they are scattered across years and papers. We bring them together for every optional – arranged topic-wise against the official syllabus and year-wise – so you can see patterns at a glance and plan your preparation with confidence.

What you will find here

  • Official syllabus for each optional, broken into numbered topics.
  • Year-wise question papers for Paper I and Paper II.
  • Topic-wise PYQs, latest first, with year, marks and question number.
  • Notes and model answers – coming over time.

How we prepare these pages

We classify every question with care, using technology to organise thousands of questions and then reviewing them ourselves. Mistakes can still slip in, so every page carries a Report an Error link. We read every report and correct the page, so the site gets better with your help.

We classify every PYQ with care, but mistakes can slip in. If a question is in the wrong topic, has a typo, the wrong year, or is missing, let us know. We review every report and update the page.
